Privacy

What we collect, why, and how to have it removed. Written with the Australian Privacy Principles and the Spam Act 2003 in mind.

What we collect

When you sign up to read the free chapters: your email address, the date you signed up, which page you signed up on, that you confirmed you had read this note, and whether you ticked the separate, optional box asking for updates. When you buy the handbook, Gumroad shares your email address and licence key with us so we can unlock it.

The site sets two cookies that keep you signed in on that browser for a year: one for the free chapters and one for the full handbook. They are not used for advertising or tracking. Your reading progress and checklists are saved only in your own browser.

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless: it records page views and general details such as browser and country, does not set cookies and does not identify you.

How we use it

Your email opens the free chapters on this device. If you ticked the updates box, we may email you about new chapters and when the full handbook opens; if you didn't, we won't send you marketing. If we email you, every email will say who it is from and have an unsubscribe link, and we act on unsubscribes within five working days. We never sell, rent or share your details for anyone else's marketing.

Where it is stored

Sign-up records are stored with Cloudflare, which hosts this site, and payments are handled by Gumroad. Both may store data outside Australia. We never see your card details.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct or delete your details at any time by emailing [email protected]. If you are not happy with how we handled a privacy concern, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
